May Christ through your faith [actually] dwell (settle down, abide, make His permanent home) in your hearts! May you be rooted deep in love and founded securely on love.
Ephesians 3:17 AMPC
The root system of a tree has several purposes. Roots absorb water and minerals necessary for life from the soil around them and transfer them to the stem for distribution. The roots also act to hold reserve food stores that are helpful in seasons of drought.
One of the main purposes for roots is that they act as an anchor, holding the tree in place, especially in turbulent weather.
We need roots. We need roots that go down deep into God that will hold us steady in the storm. Roots will keep us anchored to God when temptation comes calling so we don’t run back to our old ways.
Paul prayed for the early church constantly that they would be rooted in God, and we need to pray as much for the church in these days, living in this compromised culture, to be rooted and founded securely in love. It’s the only thing that will hold us steady to the end.
Let’s pray together.
Father, I ask You to settle down and make your permanent home in the hearts of Your Church in the city of Warren. We pray that they would develop roots deep and strong roots that will anchor them securely and permanently to You so they can stand steady and faithful to the end. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
