Day 2 (Till Christ be Formed)

For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints (the people of God), 16 I do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers. 17 [For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him.

Ephesians 1:15-17 AMPC

God is an infinite God. Infinite means limitless or endless in space, extent, or size; impossible to measure or calculate.

Our minds and understanding, however, are very finite. Limited. With a measurable end. There’s only so much we can grasp and understand before it begins to blow our circuits. The limits of the mind can be the biggest threat to the growth of the spirit.

We are trained from birth to base every decision on our soul. We make our decisions from our intellect, our senses, our feelings. We learn to base our decisions on what we can taste and see and smell and hear and feel.

Then our spirit is awakened to an awareness of God. We accept His free gift of Jesus and we come alive on the inside.

There’s no outward change. Everything still looks and smells and feels and tastes exactly the same. Nothing changed but everything changed. And if we try to judge what happened internally based on what we experience externally, it’s easy to become overwhelmed and walk back to what is familiar, especially after the emotion of the salvation experience fades into memory.

That’s why it’s so important to pray what Paul prayed here. We can’t understand spiritual things with our minds. We need the help of the Holy Spirit to build faith and bring understanding. And it doesn’t just happen. If God is going to do anything in this earth, it is going to be in response to believing prayer. And that’s where we come in.

Let’s pray this together.

Father God, we pray for Your Church in the city of Warren today. You have come in and made them a new creation. They may be grasping to understand with their minds what can only be revealed by the Spirit, so we ask You to give them a spirit of wisdom and understanding of spiritual things. Give them insight into the mysteries and secrets of Your kingdom. Bring them closer. We can never know everything there is to know about You, no matter how long we have been walking with You. We ask You to bring them into a deeper and more intimate knowledge of You today than they have ever experienced before. In Jesus’ Name, amen!

  1. I like to picture what we’d all look like if we walked in the revelation of “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Maybe the more we picture it, the closer we can get to living it.?
