Day 23 (Till Christ be Formed)

Nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.

2 Timothy 1:12b NKJV

This is one of my favorite verses out of one of my favorite books of the entire Bible. Paul composed this letter as his time on earth was coming to an end. He would be martyred a few short years after writing this from his prison cell.

These are the last penned words from the apostle Paul that we know of. These were his final encouragements to his son in the faith, Timothy. He had traveled all over, establishing churches in city after city. He wrote almost the entire New Testament single-handedly, giving us the precious truths about what happened at the cross, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.

He stood before paupers and kings alike, declaring what he knew to be true of God. Paul knew what he believed.

But knowing what we believe isn’t enough. We need to know Whom. We can have the entire New Testament memorized frontwards and backward and still not know Whom. Knowing what someone has said and knowing the person who spoke the words are two completely different things.

“I know WHOM I have believed.” Paul didn’t just believe words on a page. He could believe the truths he was sharing because he personally knew the One who spoke them, and it’s vitally important that we do too.

Let’s pray together.

Father, we pray for Your Church in the city of Warren that they would know You personally today. We pray that You would take them through the words they read on the pages of their Bible to the mouth of the One who spoke them so they can hear them as coming directly from Your lips. I pray they will come to know You even more intimately than ever before. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
