Day 27 (Till Christ be Formed)

You’ve gone into my future to prepare the way. In kindness you follow behind me to spare me from the harm of my past. With your hand of love upon my life, you impart a blessing to me.

Psalm 139:5 TPT

At 16 years old when our son was a junior in high school, he left home to be a foreign exchange student in France. He went all by himself, all alone, without his dad and me. It was a frightening idea to me.

I sat on my porch steps about two weeks before he left, talking to the Lord about all my anxious thoughts. Is he prepared? Did we teach him how to be independent? Did we prepare him well enough to survive without us? He’s so young. Did we shelter him too much? What if? What if? What if?

And the Lord ever so gently whispered to my soul, “I’ll take it from here. He won’t be alone.” And it brought me so much peace. I didn’t know what tomorrow would hold for our son, but I did know the One who held “tomorrow,” and I knew I could count on Him.

Do you ever get anxious about the future? What if the market crashes? What if I get a bad report from the doctor? What if my kids do stupid things and I can’t help them?

We may not know what tomorrow holds, but we know who holds tomorrow, and He promised to go before us. He also promised to follow behind and surround us with favor as with a shield. (Psalm 5:12)

Let go of anxiety and trust the One who holds the future. He’ll take it from here.

Let’s pray together.

Father, we pray this for ourselves today as much as for Your Church in the city of Warren. We thank You that You are already in our tomorrow, calling it good. Even though things may happen that are out of our control, we will trust in You. We declare what Your Word says: You go before us and You cover behind. Your hand of love is upon our lives, and You are imparting a blessing to us. Thank You for being so good and faithful. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
