Day 3 (Till Christ be Formed)

By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints (His set-apart ones).

Ephesians 1:18 AMPC

By. That word is a preposition and it indicates further information to what came before it. We are breaking these prayers into daily, bite-sized prayers, but verses 17, 18, and 19 are all one sentence.

Yesterday we prayed for the spirit of wisdom and revelation and today we see how that comes. Light. Not just a little beam of light, like a flashlight. “By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light.”

Naturally, it’s difficult to navigate in the dark, especially in unfamiliar territory. Spiritually speaking, walking around in the dark brings with it confusion and a lack of understanding. Oh, but once the light is turned on and floods the room, you can see so clearly. Everything begins to make sense.

Flooded. To arrive in overwhelming amounts. And that’s what God does when we pray this. He turns the lights on in their hearts so they can see and understand.

Understand what? Paul wanted them to understand the hope that God had called them to. He wanted them to understand fully the richness of what they inherited when they became a part of the family of God. We received more than just fire insurance when we accepted Jesus. It’s more than just an escape from hell. We got a full portion of the inheritance. The only way we know what all that includes is by reading the Word of God, especially the New Testament.

And the only way to fully understand the Word is by having the Holy Spirit turn the light on in our hearts and minds as we read and meditate on it.

Are you ready to turn the light on?

Let’s pray this together.

Father God, thank You for Your Church in the city of Warren. We ask You to come today and flood the eyes of their heart with light. We declare they will begin to see clearly now. Reveal to them the hope You’ve given them and the depths of what they inherited in Christ. Righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit are just the beginning. Help them see the fullness of who You are and all You want to do for them and in them and through them. In Jesus’ Name, amen.

  1. This is beautiful! It’s sad that even those within the church may not see the wondrous things that the Lord has for them. I love seeing these devotions and prayers once again for the lost in Warren and within the four walls of our churches and homes.
